Carowinds Unveils Record-Breaking Water Ride

Carowinds amusement park plans to open a groundbreaking water ride, Rip Roarin’ Falls, in 2027. This attraction promises to break multiple world records, replacing the previous Rip Roarin’ Rapids ride which closed in 2019. Located on the North Carolina-South Carolina border, the park has shared exciting details about the new experience.

Key Features of Rip Roarin’ Falls

The ride will boast a remarkable 100-foot drop, establishing it as the tallest of its kind among water rides and log flumes. Additionally, it will feature the tallest reverse drop and the tallest reverse camelback drop on a water ride. Riders will travel in eight-person boats through an abandoned lumber mill-themed setting, encountering numerous drops and changes in direction.

The new ride will include a thrilling backward journey, sending passengers down a 42-foot drop before ascending to the final plunge.

The entire track stretches over 2,240 feet, reaching speeds up to 50 mph. Two high-speed reverse switches will propel riders both forward and backward during the course of the ride, enhancing the experience.

A Thematic Adventure

Inspired by local legends of a deserted logging operation in the Carolina woods, the ride’s theme adds to its allure. Park officials state that the attraction caters to a broad audience, with height requirements set at 35 inches with an adult, and 41 inches for independent riders.

Public Reaction and Anticipation

The announcement quickly generated buzz online, especially among roller coaster fans and water ride enthusiasts. A section of users expressed excitement over the ride’s unique elements, highlighting the backward drop with a camelback as a unique feature.
Some enthusiasts even noted their willingness to travel long distances to experience the new attraction.

Despite the enthusiasm, some commenters raised concerns about the intimidating height for younger visitors. Nonetheless, Rip Roarin’ Falls is slated to be an exciting addition to Carowinds when it opens in the 2027 season.
