The tragic death of actor James Handy has led to murder charges against his girlfriend’s son, Michael Gledhill. Gledhill, aged 44, faces a potential sentence of 26 years to life if found guilty, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman made a statement about the case: This is not how anyone’s life should end, stabbed in the chest and left dying in the front yard of a home. The victim, James Handy, deserved to live out his later years enjoying what he had worked so hard for and enjoying it with those he loved and cared about.
James Handy was recognized for his work in films like Jumanji and Top Gun: Maverick. He was found unconscious late Wednesday morning outside his home in Tarzana, suffering from a chest stab wound. Despite being transported to a hospital, Handy was pronounced dead.
Gledhill was charged with one count of murder with a special allegation of using a deadly weapon, specified as a knife. The murder charge followed a statement made by a 911 caller reporting, I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.
Authorities confirmed Gledhill’s involvement after he flagged down officers and identified himself as the person responsible. At the time of his arrest, Gledhill resided with his mother, Handy’s girlfriend, in the Tarzana home. He is currently held on a $2 million bail in Van Nuys Jail.
James Handy, known for his roles on television as well as in films, appeared in shows like CSI: NY and the TV movie False Arrest.
