Chicago White Sox Show Strong Performance in May

The Chicago White Sox achieved a significant milestone by securing 18 victories in May 2026, marking their highest win count in a month since 2021 when they recorded 19 wins. Before the series opener against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, General Manager Chris Getz commented on the team’s success, noting the quality of their performance and the strong camaraderie among the players.

In May, the White Sox defeated the Twins in three out of four games and swept a series against the Detroit Tigers. They concluded the homestand with a late rally on Sunday, clinching a 2-1 win over Detroit. This marked their 16th comeback victory this season, leading the American League in such wins.

“Even the games we were maybe even out of it, or certainly down, they just don’t give in,”

remarked Getz, praising both the team’s resilience and the enthusiastic support from fans. The White Sox posted an 18-10 record in May, achieving the second-best winning percentage (.643) in the AL, following the Tampa Bay Rays (18-8, .692).

**Challenges Ahead**
Despite these achievements, the team faces challenges as first baseman Munetaka Murakami was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain. This presents an opportunity for Jacob Gonzalez, who has excelled at Triple-A with 19 home runs over two months. Getz expressed confidence in Gonzalez, who has performed well since being called up, but acknowledged that he will not replicate Murakami’s unique contributions.

“They believe they can win any night,”

Getz stated, reflecting on the team’s strong belief in their capabilities.

Injuries remain a challenge in a major-league season. Getz noted that while Murakami might be out for four to six weeks, every player’s recovery process is unique. The team avoids making premature assumptions about his return.

**Player Development & System Impact**
Gonzalez, a first-round draft pick in 2023, was 1-for-3 in Sunday’s game. Players brought up from the minor leagues have been instrumental for the team this season. Getz credited the minor-league managers for their role in developing the players. He praised their efforts in preparing players for major-league competition and highlighted conversations with the organization’s development leaders about the progress of key players.

**Injury Update**
The White Sox have returned outfielder Austin Hays from his injury rehab assignment due to recurring soreness in his left calf. Hays has been on the injured list retroactively since May 2 with a left calf strain.
