New Trier Township High School Celebrates 126th Commencement

The New Trier Township High School celebrated its 126th annual commencement on Sunday, May 31 at 3 p.m. The event took place at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates. Adhering to Trevian tradition, the 902 graduates donned formal attire, with many choosing white and black outfits. The scene was enhanced by the striking contrast of long-stemmed red roses against the light-colored dresses.

The ceremony commenced with Campbell Bach from Wilmette bringing in the American flag. “I get to represent our country,” Bach expressed with pride regarding the honor. Peter Tragos, who has been the superintendent of New Trier Township High School District 203 since July 2025, addressed the graduates. He remarked, “This commencement may feel like an end, but it’s just the beginning of many great things to come.”

The keynote address was delivered by Blake O’Donnell from Kenilworth. O’Donnell stated, “While we are leaving here with diplomas, we are also taking with us the stamina of a class that has shown it can go the distance.” Alumni speaker Shams Charania, a member of the Class of 2012 and a reporter specializing in professional basketball, also took the podium.

Two students, Cooper Cohen and Lily Dale, both from Glencoe, spoke about the class service project in collaboration with North Chicago Community Partners. This initiative highlights the commitment of the graduates to community service and social responsibility.

The ceremony saw Morgan Zibell of Winnetka, Rachel Elli of Wilmette, Lexi Circ of Kenilworth, and Mia Ascione of Wilmette wearing white dresses and holding red roses. Ascione expressed mixed emotions, saying, “I’m sad but also really excited for the next chapter. I feel prepared for college.” Lexi Circ commented positively on the education received, while Zibell reflected on the pride associated with being a Trevian, noting, “If anyone asked where you went and you said, ‘New Trier,’ it’s like an honor. It means everything.”
