Spurs Edge Out Thunder to Secure NBA Finals Spot

The Oklahoma City Thunder completed the regular season with an impressive 64-18 record, securing the top spot in the NBA. The San Antonio Spurs closely followed with a record of 62-20. Notably, the Spurs gave the Thunder a tough challenge. During the regular season, the Spurs had a 4-1 record against them. In the Western Conference Finals, the Spurs won in a thrilling 4-3 series, triumphing in Game 7 with a 111-103 victory in Oklahoma City. This victory marks the Spurs’ first NBA Finals appearance since their championship win in 2014. They are set to play against the New York Knicks, starting June 3.

Despite the loss, Thunder guard Cason Wallace remains unfazed. In a postgame press conference, Wallace remarked, “They’re a good team. Beatable team. Obviously, we beat ’em. We just gotta do things better for a longer period of time.” His comments quickly sparked a flurry of reactions on social media platform X.

One user commented, “Beatable but they beat y’all [expletive] with no postseason experience.” Another added, “4-8 vs the Spurs this year. Enjoy Cancun.” A Spurs fan account weighed in, highlighting the youth and potential of Spurs players Dylan Harper, Carter Bryant, Stephon Castle, and Wembanyama, suggesting their significant improvement over time.

While Wallace’s remarks may seem dismissive, the Thunder’s ability to push the series to a Game 7 illustrates the closely matched nature of these teams. It’s worth noting that the NBA hasn’t seen a back-to-back champion since the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018. Declaring the Spurs unbeatable now is as premature as declaring the Thunder a dynasty last year.
