The recent passing of Matt Brown, a former cast member of Discovery Channel’s ‘Alaskan Bush People,’ has been confirmed. He was 42 years old.
Family Confirms Passing
On Saturday, Bear Brown announced the discovery of Matt Brown’s body by authorities in a Washington state river. ‘They found a body in the river a few hours ago, and it was positively identified as being Matt,’ Bear stated in a TikTok video. Their brother, Noah, was responsible for the positive identification.
Details Surrounding the Incident
Matt’s absence was reported after Okanogan County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call. A witness had noticed a man sitting in a shallow section of the river, later found face down and swept away by the current. The area also yielded a recovered firearm, as reported by Page Six.
Family Requests Privacy
Bear Brown asked for privacy during this difficult time, especially for their mother, Ami Brown, saying, ‘Please don’t attack my mom. Mom cares very much for Matt and always has.’
Matt’s Struggles with Addiction
Matt Brown starred in ‘Alaskan Bush People’ from 2014 to 2019, eventually leaving due to addiction issues. In a 2016 interview with People, he revealed his battle with drinking, reflecting on how it escalated and became problematic.
‘I could see myself spiraling,’ he said. ‘I started drinking lightly and then it got to be more and more.’ Discussing his family’s support, he shared, ‘Their support was unbelievable. It instantly made me feel better and like I could be successful on this journey.’
After undergoing a 35-day treatment program, Matt spoke of gaining a new perspective: ‘I learned a lot about myself in those 35 days. I’ve turned my weakness into a strength.’
Previous Family Tragedy
The Brown family has faced tragedy before. Billy Brown, the family’s patriarch, died in 2021 following a seizure at age 68.
‘We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved patriarch Billy Brown passed away last night after suffering from a seizure,’ the family shared. Bear Brown posted on Instagram, ‘We plan to honor his legacy and continue with his dream. We ask for privacy and prayers during this painful time.’
