Yankees Secure Victory Over Mets Amid September 11 Anniversary Tribute

The New York Yankees triumphed over the New York Mets with a 6-4 win on Friday night. This game marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Outfielder Cody Bellinger played a key role, hitting a three-run homer off Mets rookie pitcher Nolan McLean in the second inning.

An unexpected interruption occurred during the game. A spectator, carrying a Palestinian flag, ran onto the field. Yankee Stadium security quickly intervened to tackle the individual. Reports suggest the person timed their field invasion to 9:11 p.m.

Video footage showed some fans throwing drinks while chanting “U-S-A” as the man was escorted away by security. The game resumed shortly after this incident.

In tribute to the September 11 anniversary, both Yankees and Mets players wore special caps. These honored the FDNY, NYPD, and various first responders. Across Major League Baseball, all players and coaches sported caps with a “We Shall Never Forget” patch.

The Yankees’ offensive efforts were strong, with designated hitter Ben Rice hitting a home run. This contributed to their improved season record of 85-62. Rookie Spencer Jones and Ryan McMahon added RBI singles, helping the Yankees stay three games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East.

Pitcher Carlos Rodón delivered an impressive performance, allowing two runs over 6.3 innings. He tallied eight strikeouts, two of which were against slugger Juan Soto, who received boos from the crowd.

Bellinger and Rice each homered, with Bellinger hitting a curveball into the right field seats and Rice sending a sinker into the left field seats.

The Yankees and Mets will face off again for Game 2 of the Subway Series, scheduled for Saturday at 1:35 p.m.
