Williams Sisters Withdraw from Wimbledon Doubles Due to Injury

Serena and Venus Williams have pulled out of the Wimbledon doubles tournament. This withdrawal ends their brief return to competitive tennis as a duo. Serena, aged 44, suffered a knee injury during an earlier singles match, leading to their decision.

The sisters had not played Grand Slam doubles together for nearly four years. In a recent Instagram post, Serena expressed her disappointment. She mentioned the injury’s impact and shared images of syringes used to drain fluid from her knee.

Despite the setback, Serena hinted at a possible return soon, telling fans to “stay tuned to a city near you.” This suggests potential future matches, possibly at the U.S. Open.

Their planned match was against Camila Osorio and Solana Sierra. It was delayed to allow Serena more recovery time. However, Serena’s previous singles match resulted in a three-set loss to Maya Joint, a 20-year-old Australian.

The Williams sisters have a celebrated doubles history. They won six Wimbledon titles together and acquired significant achievements, including 14 Grand Slam titles and three Olympic gold medals. Their last doubles appearance was at the 2022 U.S. Open, where they lost in the first round.
