Katie Hunt, a wedding photographer from Greensboro, North Carolina, faced an unexpected hurdle at a wedding on September 10. Despite her extensive experience capturing countless weddings, Hunt was surprised by a situation beyond her control.
As a precaution, Hunt ordered extra film rolls online for the event, sticking to her routine with KD Hunt Photography. Though primarily a digital photographer, she decided to buy two five-packs of Portra 400 35-millimeter film from an Amazon seller with favorable 4.5-star reviews. She did not anticipate any issues.
Upon arrival at the venue, Hunt discovered that the film rolls contained gravel-like rocks in every canister. Despite the surprise, Hunt managed to photograph the wedding seamlessly. She later contacted Amazon, suspecting it was not the seller’s fault but rather a case where someone tampered with the contents before sealing the canisters to appear new.
Amazon spokesperson Lex Evans assured Newsweek that customer satisfaction was a priority, stating they have resolved Hunt’s situation and are investigating further. Hunt returned the canisters and received a full refund, with Amazon’s team working to address her concerns.
Fortunately, the film was meant as a backup, allowing Hunt to successfully capture the wedding moments using her digital equipment. This incident has discouraged Hunt from purchasing film from Amazon in the future.
Despite this setback, Hunt remains satisfied with her long-standing experience with Amazon, having consistently received correct orders in the past. The recent trouble was a rare exception.
Hunt shared a video on TikTok showing her initial reaction to the discovery, which quickly went viral with over 2.3 million views and 144,500 likes. Viewers questioned why the moment was filmed, and Hunt explained she regularly records behind-the-scenes footage to showcase her working style to potential clients.
