Warren RB Jonathan Randolph Steps Up to Shine

Junior running back Jonathan Randolph is proving that success on the field is more rewarding than merely imagining it. Gaining experience and preparing for his leading role became crucial for Randolph, who previously played in the shadow of Aaron Stewart, Warren’s record-setting running back.

I was developing and knew making the most of my opportunity would pay off, Randolph said. I took a lot of mental reps during games and practices, learning as much as I could from him.

Stewart’s impressive stats—2,872 rushing yards and 46 touchdowns last season—offered Randolph valuable lessons.

We have different styles, Randolph explained. Stewart is a downhill runner, while I’m more elusive. I learned aspects of the downhill game from him.

Randolph effectively applied these lessons on Friday. He achieved a 67-yard touchdown run, in addition to 1-yard and 30-yard scores during Warren’s 49-6 North Suburban Conference victory over Zion-Benton in Gurnee.

I’m skilled at cutting and making defenders miss, Randolph noted. I utilize my speed on the outside and am comfortable catching passes from the backfield.

Finishing with 153 rushing yards, Randolph has become the latest standout back for the Blue Devils (3-3, 3-1). He impressed Warren coach Bryan McNulty, who celebrated his 100th career win during the game against the Zee-Bees (4-2, 2-2).

He’s a tough kid, McNulty said. He fills big shoes with grace, competes relentlessly, breaks tackles, and fulfills our needs. His performance reflects what he puts into the weight room.

Randolph’s dedication is evident; he can squat 495 pounds. I love squatting, he shared. I started at 130 pounds as a freshman, now I’m 170. Getting stronger made me visualize leading Warren’s offense.

With three touchdowns for the second time in three weeks, Randolph’s season total reached 10 alongside nearly 800 yards. His breakout game against Mundelein in Week 4 saw him rush for 234 yards, leading Warren to its first win after initial losses.

I learned a lot from tough early games, he stated. As the conference progressed, my confidence grew, not worrying anymore. More carries mean improved performances.

Randolph’s performance is pivotal to Warren’s strategy, senior left tackle Emmanuel Ubaka added. It’s fun blocking for him. He sees openings and keeps moving, ensuring continual yardage gains.

Randolph enjoys his critical role. I’m happy to contribute, he affirmed. This is the real me now, not just someone filling Aaron’s shoes.
