Warning Issued on Flash Flood Risks in Grand Canyon

The National Park Service alerted that a significant wildfire in 2025 increased the risk of flash flooding and debris flows on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. On Saturday, a severe flash flood highlighted these concerns.

The trails close to the area of the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire are particularly susceptible to such floods. This fire’s impact left the land more exposed to sudden surges of water.

Before the recent disastrous flood, authorities had already identified these vulnerabilities. This forewarning underscores the lasting effects wildfires have on landscapes, increasing hazards like flash floods.

Images from NBC News and Google Earth show the affected regions. The alert from August 31, 2026, emphasizes the need for caution due to the burn scar left by past fires.
