Vikings Stage Dramatic Comeback Against Packers Despite Murray’s Injury

The Minnesota Vikings staged an impressive comeback to defeat the Green Bay Packers 39-22 in a Sunday face-off. The victory, however, was marred by an early injury to their starting quarterback, Kyler Murray.

Murray’s Early Exit

Murray’s injury occurred in the first quarter during a third-down play as he scrambled to gain yards. Attempting to slide, he sustained a forceful hit from two Packers defenders, including safety Javon Bullard. The collision resulted in a frightening scene as helmets collided with Murray.

Following the impact, Murray lay on the field while medical staff attended to him. He eventually exited the game, walking off independently. Bullard received an unnecessary roughness penalty for the hit.

Murray underwent evaluation for a concussion and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. In a post-game interview, Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson shared a heartfelt message regarding his injured teammate.

“Thinking about Kyler, and prayers out to him,” Jefferson expressed to CBS’s Tracy Wolfson. “You don’t want to see a brother go down with that injury, but it’s good he walked off the field and is still with us.”

Jefferson Shines and Vikings’ Quarterback Concerns

Jefferson concluded the game with eight receptions, amassing 92 yards and two touchdowns during the season opener. He described Sunday’s performance as “a great start” and mentioned “a long time coming” following last year’s tally of two touchdowns.

Murray completed the game with 3 of 5 passes for 18 yards and an interception prior to his departure. Signed in the offseason to address previous quarterback difficulties, Murray’s early exit was a disappointment for the team.

Postgame updates classified Murray as “questionable” after the Week 1 injury. The Vikings would need Murray to complete concussion protocol before the upcoming game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, September 20.

If Murray remains unavailable, the team will rely on veteran backup Carson Wentz to lead as quarterback.
