A 21-year-old student from the University of Georgia miraculously survived an eight-story fall from her apartment window. According to a police report obtained by Fox News Digital, Kristin Sargent fell through a screen while dancing near an open window in the Rambler Athens apartment complex on West Broad Street, around 7:37 p.m. last Saturday.
Witnesses reported seeing Sargent dance on a couch or air mattress near the window before she fell through the screen. She landed in a courtyard pool area on the building’s second floor and hit a metal bench during the fall. Police discovered blood on the bench cushion, and one of its armrests was torn off.
Lieutenant Katie Jenkins, spokesperson for Athens-Clarke County Police, indicated the bench might have lessened the impact of Sargent’s fall. The incident is being considered an accident, and no criminal investigation is underway. It’s understood that Sargent is now alert and conscious.
In an emergency 911 call captured by FOX 5 Atlanta, a frantic witness described the terrifying moment. “We’re on the eighth floor. My friend just fell out of the window,” said the caller, who was not initially sure if Sargent was moving after her fall.
Once emergency responders arrived, Sargent was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police conducted interviews with her and witnesses while also collecting forensic evidence at the scene. Initial findings support the conclusion that the fall was accidental.
The apartment complex, Rambler Athens, has stated they are reviewing the incident. Fox News Digital contacted the complex for more information about any safety features related to the windows. A representative for the university has yet to respond to requests for additional comments.
