MADISON, Wis. — On Friday night, a United Airlines flight en route to Minneapolis was unexpectedly diverted to Wisconsin. The diversion was necessary to remove an unruly passenger, according to officials.
A United Airlines spokesperson stated, “United flight 2005 from Chicago to Minneapolis landed safely in Madison, Wisconsin to address a security concern with an unruly passenger.”
Law enforcement on the flight acted quickly to restrain the disruptive individual, as reported by Carrie Springer, spokeswoman for the Dane County Regional Airport. Deputies from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office were on hand when the plane landed to remove the passenger.
Federal authorities are now responsible for the subsequent investigation. The Boeing 737-900 aircraft had a total of 147 passengers and six crew members on board. The airline confirmed that there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.
The flight was able to resume its journey following the incident, eventually making its way to Minneapolis early on Saturday morning.
