The conflict between the U.S. and Iran continues to escalate, as U.S. Central Command reports nine consecutive nights of strikes against Iranian military targets. These actions follow the tragic deaths of U.S. service members in attacks attributed to Iran in Jordan and Iraq.
President Donald Trump has promised to maintain pressure on Iran, aiming to weaken its military capabilities and enforce naval blockades in the Strait of Hormuz. The War Department has identified two active-duty Army soldiers who died during an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan last week. They are 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, from Carrollton, Texas. The incident marks the first U.S. service member fatalities since hostilities resumed following Iran’s breach of a peace agreement negotiated by President Trump.
A third U.S. service member’s remains are being identified. An additional service member was killed Saturday during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance in northern Iraq. President Trump emphasized repercussions for each American soldier’s death, stating on Truth Social that directives were given to Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Daniel Caine, and other military leaders.
The U.S. Central Command reported that the number of U.S. service members killed since the war began has now reached 17, with over 420 wounded. Feehan and Gonzales, who were supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, fell victim to the Iranian attack on Jordan.
The U.S. mission in Iraq has shifted, consolidating and transitioning its presence in Syria. Feehan served with the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Brig. Gen. John Dawber praised Feehan’s dedication, adding that support for his family and honor for his sacrifice remained steadfast. Gonzales served with the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command in Ansbach, Germany.
Tensions have intensified since an interim ceasefire deal fell apart last week. The return to warfare comes as Trump’s 60-day Iran agreement dissolves into renewed conflict. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth emphasized the importance of the fallen soldiers’ sacrifice, stating, Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve.
The U.S. has conducted nine days of relentless strikes on Iran’s coastal military bases and Islamic Revolution Guard Corps forces, opposing the now-defunct memorandum of understanding meant to facilitate a ceasefire and ensure safe passage in the Strait of Hormuz.
