New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough demonstrated significant progress from his first year to his second, leading the team to a 24-17 triumph over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
Shough secured the crucial touchdown from the 1-yard line, with New Orleans’ defense effectively containing Baltimore’s offense to clinch the victory in the final moments. As is often the case in NFL games, the officiating faced scrutiny over Shough’s touchdown.

Officials ruled that Shough crossed the goal line, yet replays prompted fans to question the validity of the touchdown. At one point, Shough appeared to lose possession of the ball as he was pulled down, and a Ravens defender seemed to grab his facemask.
The NFL community questioned the touchdown ruling. An NFL executive defended the decision.
“We exhausted all available angles and could not prove clear and obvious that he did not break the plane of the goal line,” stated Mark Butterworth, NFL vice president of instant replay, to a pool reporter.
Baltimore retrieved the ball with 1:28 remaining, but Lamar Jackson was unable to orchestrate a comeback.
Shough ended the game with 27 completions from 34 attempts, accumulating 252 yards, including a touchdown pass and a rushing score.
“It’s a hard play on the goal line because…sometimes they lose sight of the football. I think it’s a challenging play for everyone,” New Orleans head coach Kellen Moore remarked. “We were fortunate to be granted that. Naturally, we opted to go for it in that situation. A chance to score a touchdown. Otherwise, we would force them from the minus-1 yard line.”
The Saints rebounded after a narrow defeat to the Detroit Lions last week. Shough was 35-for-56 with 410 yards and three touchdown passes.
