The Tunnel to Towers Steel Across America tour visited Boston to honor fallen heroes. This nationwide tour aims to conclude in New York City shortly after September 11.
A 21-foot steel beam from the World Trade Center’s South Tower was displayed at the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes Memorial in Boston’s Seaport. The beam has been touring since May.
Dan Magoon, the executive director of Massachusetts Fallen Heroes, reflected on the significance of the event. He emphasized the importance of educating the next generation about the sacrifices made on 9/11 and during subsequent military engagements.
Remembering 9/11
Mike Eruzione, the captain of the 1980 U.S. Winter Olympics hockey team, paid tribute to friends lost on one of the hijacked planes. He highlighted the emotional impact of Tunnel to Towers, a charity supporting 9/11 families, first responders, and veterans.
The event gathered first responders and law enforcement personnel from Massachusetts. Attendees were invited to approach the beam and pay their respects.
Daniel McCarthy, a Boston resident, shared his thoughts about the historical significance of the beam and the tragedies that unfolded on 9/11.
The steel beam was later taken to Fenway Park following a visit to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
On September 8, the tour will make a stop at the White House in Washington, D.C.
