President Donald Trump will present the FIFA World Cup trophy to the winner of the match between Spain and Argentina on Sunday. This was confirmed by a White House official to Fox News.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino had previously announced on ‘Fox & Friends’ that he and Trump would present the trophy to the winning team’s captain on the field of New York/New Jersey Stadium.
Trump’s Participation in FIFA Events
Trump appeared alongside Reece James of Chelsea during the FIFA Club World Cup trophy presentation. This occurred after Chelsea’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 final, held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Infantino noted that Trump would be present at the match. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt remarked that the president’s attendance would signify a fitting conclusion to a successful tournament hosted by the U.S.
In the earlier stages of the World Cup, Trump intervened in a major controversy. He contacted Infantino to review Folarin Balogun’s red card. Although Balogun was initially suspended for Team USA’s Round of 16 match, he was later deemed eligible to play.
Previous Engagements and Awards
Although Trump has not attended a World Cup match so far, Secretary of State Marco Rubio watched the U.S. Men’s National Team’s opening match against Paraguay, which ended in a 4-1 victory.
During the World Cup final draw in December, Trump was awarded the first FIFA Peace Prize at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He received the prize from FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Recently, Trump attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. The White House also hosted UFC Freedom 250 last month, and an IndyCar race is scheduled for Washington, D.C., next month.
