President Donald Trump provided an update on the conflict between Ukraine and Russia during a press briefing at the White House. He stated that 25,000 people died last month and 32,000 the month before, with soldiers comprising a majority of the casualties. Trump expressed concern over the significant loss of life, describing the situation as a shame.
According to the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS), Russia has suffered as many as 450,000 soldier casualties since the 2022 invasion. In discussing the future of the conflict, Trump shared that he recently communicated with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He expressed hope for a resolution before the onset of severe winter conditions and urged Zelenskyy to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump recounted his discussions with Zelenskyy, emphasizing the areas where they found strong agreement. However, he maintained that both leaders should work towards a settlement. He revealed that an agreement had been reached to allow Ukraine to produce U.S. Patriot missile interceptors, marking a shift in U.S. policy.
Zelenskyy confirmed the agreement, noting that Trump had finalized his decision regarding the Patriot licenses. This development was acknowledged in Zelenskyy’s communication, highlighting the significant milestone in their ongoing military cooperation.
