Troye Sivan Embraces Authenticity in New Album

Troye Sivan’s new work, She’s the Best, marks a significant milestone in the singer-songwriter’s journey. Following the success of his 2023 album, Something to Give Each Other, Sivan has transitioned into a phase where he explores deeper, darker emotions.

Previously, Sivan’s singles like “Rush” and “Got Me Started” achieved viral success, earning him Grammy nominations. These hits also led to a parody on Saturday Night Live featuring Timothée Chalamet and boygenius. The subsequent Sweat tour with Charli XCX captured the energetic vibe of “Brat” summer, marking a period of great excitement in Sivan’s career.

Despite this success, Sivan felt that the high-energy atmosphere didn’t fully capture his personal experiences as he approached the end of his twenties. In an interview with NPR Music’s Isabella Gomez Sarmiento, Sivan shared insights into how She’s the Best allowed him to honor important women in his life and step away from flawless pop sounds. The album reflects his true emotions, offering listeners an authentic connection to his experiences.

This insight into Sivan’s creative process was produced by Noah Caldwell and edited by Hazel Cills. Jacob Ganz serves as NPR Music’s chief editor, with Suraya Mohamed as the executive producer and Sonali Mehta as the executive director.
