The Normandy beach town of Trouville-sur-Mer lies a mere two-hour train ride from the heart of Paris. Yet, it offers a stark contrast to the bustling city life. Here, city noise gives way to the gentle breeze of the English Channel and the calls of seagulls echoing through the cobblestone streets.
This area, part of the Norman Riviera, features expansive beaches with grand tides. Many Parisians make the journey for a day of relaxation. Visitors like myself enjoy the comfort of chaise lounge chairs under vibrant beach umbrellas that line the boardwalk.
The Impressionist artists once captured the shifting skies and sandy beaches of Trouville. In the 19th century, fashionable holidaymakers began practicing ‘sea bathing’ here. Viewing one of Claude Monet’s depictions of the beach scene, with its turreted houses and stylish boardwalk strollers, suggests little has changed since those days, except the strollers’ fashion choices.
