Tragic Incidents at Burning Man Festival 2026

Two men lost their lives in a short span of time during the Burning Man festival as tens of thousands converged in the Nevada desert. The festival’s organizers shared that Craigh Mann, aged 60, was discovered deceased by his campmates on a Saturday afternoon. Additionally, a participant in his mid-50s passed away following a medical emergency earlier.

Mann was found in his camp at Black Rock City at around 3 p.m. on September 5, according to the Burning Man Project.

Burning Man Project is saddened to share that a second Black Rock City participant, Craigh Mann, a 60-year-old man, was found deceased by campmates in his camp.

The organizers expressed condolences to Mann’s family and friends, emphasizing the impact of this loss. They had previously announced the first death on Friday evening. This man received emergency medical measures; however, was pronounced dead at the festival’s on-site care center. His name hasn’t been disclosed, pending family notification.

The festival held from August 30 to the following Monday, draws up to 80,000 attendees annually. Known for its iconic wooden effigy burning, it contributes to building a temporary community in Black Rock City. After the first death, the festival emphasized their priority on safety and assured around-the-clock availability of support resources. The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office didn’t reply to requests for more information.
