Pro wrestling icon Tommy Dreamer has issued a warning to fans ahead of his return to the Awesome Championship Wrestling (ACW) ring. He is set to face Josh Shernoff in a lumberjack match that includes the tag teams The Now and Sent 2 Slaughter in Poughkeepsie, New York.
The history of animosity between these competitors runs deep. In January, Shernoff pinned Dreamer during a six-man tag match at the Poughkeepsie Rumble. Tensions further escalated as Shernoff prepared to challenge Dreamer at ACW Indypendence Day.
Dreamer shared insights into the rivalry with Fox News Digital, hinting at an unexpected level of violence for fans at the MJN Center.
“People try to make a name for themselves in this industry,” Dreamer said. “This guy has been running his mouth using my absence to his advantage. I intend to use tactics that made me famous, especially in that building, and I apologize to fans who aren’t accustomed to this style of old-school wrestling.”
The rivalry intensified during the steel cage match between Shawn Donovan and Danny Maff against Vik Dalishus, with Hale Collins forced to watch from outside the ring while handcuffed. Dalishus’ wife intervened, rushing into the ring to stop the chaos, which left Dalishus hospitalized.
Discussing these events, Dreamer highlighted the gravity of recent actions and the potential consequences to his friends and their families.
“These guys go beyond wrestling,” Dreamer noted. “When I was in ECW, I didn’t understand the impact on others. Now, as I’m older, I see the ramifications.” He recalled the incident where Dalishus was injured in front of his family, expressing frustration at the current state of affairs.
The upcoming match signifies another chapter in this rivalry, with Dreamer eager to display his seasoned skill in the ring once more.
“I’ve been wrestling for 37 years. I’ve wrestled legends, and had unforgettable matches in Poughkeepsie where I witnessed great moments as a fan myself,” Dreamer said. “To see wrestling return post-COVID and flourish in Poughkeepsie is a testament to our community’s love for professional wrestling.”
ACW’s Indypendence Day is set for Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. ET, promising an engaging showdown for all attendees.
