Tim Ream Aims High for World Cup and Tackles Bedwetting Stigma

Tim Ream, captain of the U.S. men’s national soccer team, is optimistic about their World Cup prospects. At 38, he’s set on winning, and he confidently shares this goal.

Ream stated, “The mindset is let’s win the thing. Let’s win the World Cup.”

In the 2022 World Cup, the U.S. team, though an inexperienced group, reached the Round of 16. Ream intends to build on that experience. The team adopted a winning mindset from the start of training.

This time, unlike 2022, Ream had a drawn-out wait for squad selection. Originally from St. Louis, he felt immense relief when selected. He experienced an emotional moment, saying, “I dropped everything and called my wife, and I choked up.” His selection confirmed that all his efforts were worthwhile.

With the World Cup hosted in the U.S., there is added significance, but the expectations remain consistent. Ream emphasized, “It’s a World Cup. It doesn’t matter where you’re playing it. The expectations and the pressure are going to be there.”

He anticipates full stadiums with U.S. supporters energizing their campaign. Ream plans to savor every moment, pushing the team to its limits.

At his age, Ream hasn’t decided if this will be his last World Cup. He’s focused on the present and the opportunity to compete at home. “I’m not even thinking about what happens next. Once the World Cup finishes, then I’ll think about where I go from there,” he shared.

Ream also partnered with Goodnites, addressing childhood bedwetting—a common experience he faced until age 11. Through this partnership, Ream aims to show children there’s no shame in bedwetting.

“As someone who’s been through this,” Ream remarked, “I don’t need to feel ashamed. It doesn’t define who I am.”

A father of three, Ream promotes confidence in children through wearing Goodnites, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. “It’s as easy as saying, ‘Hey, listen, boys, we’re going to wear these tonight. It protects you. You’ll get a good night’s sleep,’” he explained.

Ream’s effort with Goodnites seeks to inspire kids and comfort families dealing with bedwetting.
