Chad Eberle, a Texas law enforcement reserve officer and Army veteran, was arrested in Mexico. He faces accusations of killing three individuals and severely injuring his ex-partner in a shooting incident in Saltillo.
What Eberle Is Accused Of
The shooting unfolded at a home in Saltillo, the capital of Coahuila. It reportedly erupted during a dispute related to Eberle’s son. Eberle allegedly visited the house to take custody of his child, which led to an argument. According to reports, he opened fire, resulting in the deaths of three people and critical injury to the child’s mother.
The victims, identified by La Razon de Mexico, include Ana Laura de León Morín, 44; Laura Jaquelín Morín de León, 22; and Emanuel Montero Gómez, 44. Eberle’s former partner, the 26-year-old mother of his son, was shot and seriously wounded.
Authorities issued a warrant for Eberle, listed officially only as Chad N, for crimes of femicide and aggravated homicide. The Coahuila Attorney General’s Office mentioned the warrant on social media before his arrest.
Following the incident, Eberle reportedly fled in a gray Chevrolet Silverado with his son. Efforts to reach the Coahuila Attorney General’s office and the U.S. Consulate in Mexico for comments were made.
Details of the Arrest
Authorities tracked Eberle as he moved toward the U.S.-Mexico border. A social media post depicted him in custody. He was apprehended at International Bridge II in Piedras Negras, Mexico, near Eagle Pass, Texas, on the night of August 4, before crossing into the U.S.
After the arrest, Eberle was transferred to Saltillo Men’s Penitentiary on Wednesday night. He remains detained while the legal proceedings continue. The child is now under PRONNIF, Mexico’s child protection agency.
Coahuila Attorney General Federico Fernández stated that Chad N was presented to judicial authorities following the execution of the arrest warrant. Mexican authorities have been in touch with the U.S. Consulate.
Who Is Chad Eberle?
Eberle’s career in Texas law enforcement spans several years. He secured his Texas peace officer license in January 2017, progressing through basic, intermediate, and advanced certifications, as noted in Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) records, which also record his military service.
His law enforcement history includes roles across numerous Texas departments: Northside Independent School District Police Department, Bexar County Constable’s Office Precinct 2, Gregory Police Department, Lockney Police Department, Bangs Police Department, and Santa Anna Police Department.
Eberle served at Northside ISD from August 2017 to January 2019, after which he joined the Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office as a deputy constable for about a year. Newsweek reached out to the latter office for further comment.
Eberle was appointed to the Santa Anna Police Department in November 2025 as an unpaid reserve officer, working typically one weekend monthly. Police Chief Ryan Tucker confirmed that Eberle was on personal leave during the alleged incident.
Coleman Today published a statement from the City of Santa Anna, acknowledging awareness of the situation in Mexico concerning Eberle. It noted that, being in contact with the US Consulate and TCOLE, no further public comment would be made due to the ongoing investigation.
