President Donald Trump recently released a video that appears to be AI-generated, depicting explosions on Iran’s Kharg Island. Despite these claims, Iranian sources have not confirmed any strikes on the island by the U.S. military over the weekend.
Trump shared the video on Truth Social, claiming, “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!” Kharg Island is strategically important for Iran, as it facilitates 90 percent of the country’s oil exports. This makes it vital to Tehran’s economy, which is already under pressure.
Tensions have risen between Washington and Tehran, with both countries exchanging strikes on Sunday. This marked the first such incident since late July, as the U.S. seeks to pressure Iran into an agreement through sanctions.
Hamid Bovard, the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company, dismissed Trump’s video as “laughable.” He stated that operations on Kharg Island were proceeding as usual.
The U.S. Central Command, responsible for U.S. military operations in the Middle East, did not report any attacks on Kharg Island. Instead, it announced it had conducted “limited, precise action” against Iranian minelaying capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz. Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for CENTCOM, specified that the U.S. had targeted two Iranian launchers on Larak Island.
Iran’s military responded by launching ballistic missile attacks on two Jordanian air bases, claiming to have caused significant damage. Additionally, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported stopping a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz after it was hit by two naval mines.
The situation continues to develop, with further updates expected.
