Sydney Sweeney Faces Criticism for Sports Platform Ad

Actress Sydney Sweeney is under scrutiny from her co-star Sharon Stone over a recent advertisement for the sports prediction platform Novig. The ad, featured on HBO’s “Euphoria,” has sparked controversy due to its provocative nature.

During an interview with People at Variety’s Power of Women event in Los Angeles, Stone, 68, commented on Sweeney’s ad, suggesting the actress should “take responsibility” for her choices. Stone emphasized the importance of supporting women who have excelled in sports instead of using provocative imagery to attract attention.

It’s up to her to take responsibility for her actions. My role is to support women who have triumphed in sports, Stone stated.

The advertisement showcases Sweeney in various suggestive poses with sports equipment, promoting the platform for placing bets on “just sports.” This depiction has received backlash, notably from female athletes.

Australian Olympic swimmer Ariarne Titmus expressed her frustration on Instagram, questioning the continued monetization and sexualization of women’s sports.

British sprinter Amy Hunt also joined the conversation after her performance at the Ultimate Championship in Hungary. Hunt highlighted the effort and dedication involved in women’s sports, contrasting this with Sweeney’s ad.

In response to criticism, Sweeney pointed to past nude images of athletes in ESPN magazine, sparking further debate. The controversy over her ad drew further comment from Newsbusters’ Curtis Houck, who suggested jealousy may be a motive for the backlash.
