Supreme Court Faces Declining Public Confidence

In recent times, public trust in institutions has weakened significantly. This trend is evident in the declining approval ratings for the Supreme Court. A Gallup poll from July revealed that only 33 percent of Americans approve of the Supreme Court’s performance. This figure marks the lowest approval rating in the 26-year history of the poll.

In contrast, a survey conducted by Marquette Law School presents a slightly less dire picture. It shows that 47 percent of respondents approve of the Court’s actions, while 53 percent disapprove. Although this survey paints a more balanced view, it still places the Court’s approval in negative territory.

Despite these numbers, there is a general sense among Americans that they continue to support the decisions made by the Court. As the Supreme Court prepares to begin a new term, these statistics highlight a significant challenge. The institution must grapple with public perceptions in an era where trust is faltering across various sectors.
