Star Meat Delivery Inc. Recalls Meat Due to Lack of Inspection

Star Meat Delivery Inc. has announced a recall of roughly 167,639 pounds of raw beef, pork, and goat products. The recall follows a warning issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Tuesday, highlighting that these products were produced without federal inspection and possess a false USDA inspection mark.

Details of the Recall

The FSIS has categorized this situation as a Class I recall. This classification indicates a reasonable probability that consumption may lead to serious health issues or death. Specifically, products marked with the number β€œEST. 1363” are advised to be avoided due to safety concerns.

An example of other recent recalls includes J. HIGGS brand potato chips that were cited for potentially undeclared soy allergens. These incidents highlight an increasing awareness regarding food safety breaches.

Identifying Recalled Products

The products subject to recall were distributed under the A&D Foods label in bulk to restaurants and retail outlets nationwide. They were vacuum-sealed and packed in cardboard boxes. Since individual packages may not display the recalled batch’s labels, stores might have added their own pricing and safety labels.

Thankfully, no illnesses or injuries related to this recall have been reported thus far, as confirmed by the FSIS.

Consumer Advisory

The FSIS advises consumers, retailers, and restaurants to check for any recalled items in their stock. If found, they should not consume or sell these items. Instead, they should be returned to the place of purchase or discarded appropriately.

This recall coincides with heightened concerns over foodborne illnesses, as demonstrated by recent outbreaks of salmonella and cyclospora. Keith Schneider, a food safety expert, remarked that the recall underscores the effectiveness of the food safety system in identifying and mitigating risks swiftly. While food cannot be entirely risk-free, the emphasis lies on rapid problem identification and minimizing potential impacts.
