Spurs Advance to NBA Finals with Victory in Game 7 Against Thunder

Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs began the Western Conference finals with a win against the Oklahoma City Thunder and finished the series on a high note as well. The Spurs are headed to the NBA Finals, dethroning the previous champions.

Wembanyama scored 22 points, with Julian Champagnie contributing 18 of his 20 points from three-point territory. The Spurs defeated the Thunder 111-103 on Saturday night, overcoming tough odds to secure a Game 7 victory on the road.

This feeling, I can’t explain it. It’s so powerful, Wembanyama expressed.

Stephon Castle added 16 points while De’Aaron Fox chipped in 15. Dylan Harper contributed 12, and both Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell ended with 11 points each. The Spurs are making their first NBA Finals appearance since 2014 and will face the New York Knicks in Game 1 on Wednesday night.

Coach Mitch Johnson reflected on the journey, Back in October, we knew we had a chance to be pretty good, before correcting himself, acknowledging their potential to achieve greatness at the championship level.

One pivotal play occurred midway through the fourth quarter. San Antonio’s Luke Kornet blocked a shot from Oklahoma City’s Isaiah Hartenstein at the rim, preventing a fast-break score that could have narrowed the Thunder’s deficit to four points.

Despite playing only six minutes, Kornet’s block was crucial. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 35 points and nine assists as the NBA prepares for a new champion for the eighth consecutive season. Cason Wallace scored 17 points, while Jared McCain and Alex Caruso added 12 each for the Thunder.

You have to grow from every experience, including the tough ones, Thunder coach Mark Daigneault noted. It’s the NBA — there are tough ones. We can also be really disappointed. … There’s nobody that we don’t think we can beat, respectfully.

The series featured four straight decisive games before Game 7, where the score was close at 80-77 in favor of the Spurs entering the fourth quarter. Despite early leads, the Thunder repeatedly rallied back, creating a dramatic game worthy of its finale status.

Johnson praised his players, The players did what they’ve been doing all year and they met the biggest moment. The Spurs secured victory, maintaining their lead as the Thunder, missing key player Jalen Williams due to injury, struggled to mount a final challenge.

Gilgeous-Alexander commented on the difficulty of repeat championships, Winning an NBA championship is very hard in itself to do one time. So to do it all over again would just only make it harder.

San Antonio emerged victorious in eight of the 12 clashes against the Thunder this season. They now seek further glory.

We want four more. We’re not done, declared Wembanyama.
