The Associated Press confirmed that Pratt would not face incumbent Karen Bass. Instead, Bass will challenge progressive city council member Nithya Raman.
Pratt, a Republican, received an endorsement from Donald Trump. Despite this, his lack of political experience and the city’s Democratic leanings presented hurdles. Concerns about homelessness, crime, and urban decay were central themes of Pratt’s campaign. He referred to his experiences with the Palisades Fire, which destroyed his home, to emphasize his message about governmental failures. He often proclaimed, “Enough is enough.”
Pratt was not qualified to enter the November runoff to unseat incumbent Karen Bass. He focused heavily on homelessness, crime, and city challenges.

The counting of votes took several days after the primary on June 2, which is common in the state. Before results were finalized, Pratt shared a photo outside city hall with the caption, “Patience.” No Republican has prevailed in a Los Angeles mayoral election since 1997. The demographic challenges were substantial, with Republicans making up less than 15% of registered voters in the city.
Pratt’s motivation for entering the race was palpable, following the tragic loss of his home in the destructive Palisades Fire. He recorded a video at the site, condemning leaders for their perceived failures.
Some Angelenos, like Dennis Kamrany, supported Pratt as a refreshing alternative due to his energy and direct approach. Kamrany, who faced damage to his home during the fire, expressed his willingness to change by stating, “What the hell do we have to lose?”
Others, however, were less convinced. Deanna Crane, despite her frustrations with city leadership, chose not to support Pratt due to his lack of political background.
Pratt’s path to fame began with “The Hills,” where he played the role of a controversial personality. His endeavors in the spotlight were frequently driven by a desire for publicity. He admitted to splurging his wealth in pursuit of a lavish lifestyle, leading to ventures in music and crystal sales.
Despite the loss of his home, he stayed active online, fueling financial support and attention through platforms like TikTok. This support helped his wife Heidi Montag’s old music achieve surprising success on iTunes.
The city’s challenges remain daunting. The next mayor will inherit issues such as high taxes, congestion, and ongoing concerns over homelessness. Hollywood’s shift of jobs and a struggling restaurant sector further exemplify the region’s difficulties.
Susie Tho, who attended Pratt’s primary night party, voted for him as a Democrat seeking change. She yearned for her child to experience a safe and clean city, reminiscent of the Los Angeles she grew up in.
