South Dakota Gubernatorial Primary Runoff: Rhoden vs Doeden

Republican voters in South Dakota are returning to the polls on Tuesday for an important gubernatorial primary runoff. Governor Larry Rhoden (R) is competing for a full term in office against Republican businessman Toby Doeden.

Neither Rhoden nor Doeden secured the majority required in the June 2 primary to avoid a runoff. In that initial contest, Doeden outpaced Rhoden by 5 percentage points, posing a significant challenge for the incumbent governor.

Rhoden assumed the governorship after former Homeland Security head Kristi Noem was appointed by President Trump, leaving her position vacant. Despite the state’s strong Republican leaning, the president has not made any statements regarding the race.

The polls are set to close at 8 p.m. EDT. For live results, tune in to Decision Desk HQ.
