According to Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi, a member of the Vice Presidential Protective Division faces both administrative and possible criminal inquiry concerning these allegations. Guglielmi emphasized that any behavior potentially endangering a protectee will not be tolerated.
This investigation follows reports of growing frustration among agents over Vance’s unplanned personal and family travel. Specifically, an article reported Vance’s office canceled a planned helicopter flight for his son’s golf lesson after publication, as the administration cited operational reasons for the helicopter use, stating it reduced burden on local law enforcement and minimized motorist disruptions.
Current and former agents have noted that previous vice presidents avoided using costly government resources for personal convenience. Agents expressed that sudden ‘off-the-record’ trips often disrupt their plans and require hurried security arrangements. In response to the situation, the Trump administration noted that unlike most previous vice presidents who lacked young children, this unique situation presents a different nature of protective duty.
