An Egyptian court sentenced Sarah Khalifa, a well-known TV host, to death by hanging. This major drug case involved accusations against an organized criminal group manufacturing and trafficking synthetic drugs.
Defendants and Charges
Khalifa is one of 12 defendants facing execution for roles in the drug operation, including importing materials for narcotics production. The prosecution identified the group’s activities through statements from 20 witnesses and digital evidence.
The case charged 28 people with forming a criminal group and possessing unlicensed firearms. Twelve individuals received death sentences, nine got life imprisonment, and seven were acquitted.
Details of the Criminal Network
The group’s operations allegedly resembled a network, assigning members to different roles. Some imported raw materials, others manufactured, and distributed synthetic drugs. They reportedly stored materials in a residential property.
During the investigation, authorities seized over 750 kilograms (about 1,653 pounds) of synthetic narcotics and raw materials. They also took precautionary measures against the defendants’ assets and bank accounts.
