Sami Zayn’s Triumph
In an evening filled with unexpected twists and turns at the main event of “Friday Night SmackDown,” Sami Zayn emerged victorious as the new Undisputed WWE champion. The chaos unfolded as Zayn faced CM Punk in a highly anticipated rematch. Zayn’s journey to reclaim the title began after his brief reign, which had previously ended with a pinfall against Cody Rhodes at Night of Champions.
Key Moments from the Arena
The match reached its dramatic climax at Arena Ciudad de Mexico, Mexico City, on September 11, 2026. With Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae seemingly supporting Zayn, the atmosphere felt charged with potential interference. LeRae’s distraction allowed Gargano’s attempt to strike Punk, which unexpectedly resulted in Gargano receiving a “Go to Sleep” from Punk. Amidst the commotion, Kevin Owens intervened, aiming to hit Zayn but instead inadvertently striking Punk.
In a game-changing moment, Zayn capitalized on Punk’s disorientation from the corner, delivering a well-placed Helluva Kick to secure his victory and the title.
Champion’s Ascendancy
With this victory, Zayn celebrates his second time as the Undisputed WWE Champion, a feat he achieved twice within the same year. The title has changed hands five times this year alone. Drew McIntyre captured the title in January, Rhodes reclaimed it in March, followed by Zayn’s triumph in June, only for Punk to seize it in July. Now, as September unfolds, Zayn holds the title once more as new challenges loom on the horizon.
Future Challenges
A multitude of contenders now vie for the championship. CM Punk, Kevin Owens, Cody Rhodes, Johnny Gargano, and Randy Orton potentially enter the fray for future opportunities against Zayn. Additionally, Drew McIntyre, despite his current hiatus from the ring, remains a formidable opponent upon his return. These competitors promise to intensify the title picture in forthcoming events.
