Botticelli Foods is recalling its bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter due to salmonella found in three jars during testing. The U.S. FDA confirms the product was distributed exclusively by Walmart.
Throughout the year, numerous food recalls have been issued due to potential health risks, including contamination and undeclared allergens. Recently, over 360,000 pounds of turkey bacon were recalled because of potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
Millions in the U.S. face food sensitivities or allergies annually. The FDA identifies nine major allergens: eggs, milk, fish, wheat, soybeans, crustacean shellfish, sesame, tree nuts, and peanuts.
“Safety is a top priority,” Walmart stated. “Upon recalls, we quickly remove affected products from our stores and block sales both in store and online.”
Botticelli Foods has not commented as of Monday night.

The FDA reports the affected Pistachio Nut Butter was distributed to 19 states including Alabama, Alaska, and others. The product is sold in a 6.7-ounce glass jar with lot code LB028ACP04 and UPC 194346207961. It expires January 28, 2027.
No reports of illnesses or injuries associated with the recall have surfaced as of Monday. Customers with the recalled nut butter should return it for a refund and avoid consumption. Salmonella are bacteria that cause salmonellosis, a common infection. The CDC notes infection occurs after ingesting contaminated food or water, or through contact with infected animals. The recall follows routine testing that found salmonella in three jars in Florida.
Some groups are at greater risk, including children under 5, adults over 65, international travelers, and those with weakened immune systems.
