Vladimir Solovyov’s Controversial Statements
Russian media personality Vladimir Solovyov has made threats against NATO during a segment of his show. In this broadcast, he discussed Norway’s seizure of a Russian ship in Svalbard, prompted by a request from Ukrainian energy company Naftogaz. Solovyov called for aggressive military actions near the Norwegian border and suggested cutting diplomatic ties with Germany and the EU. He harshly criticized NATO, remarking, “We spit on NATO, bomb the hell out of it.”
Broadcast Highlights and Censorship Concerns
Julia Davis, known for her work at Russia Media Monitor, shared a segment of Solovyov’s show on social media. She noted that portions of the broadcast had been live but were later deleted due to their controversial content. The segment was labeled “deleted broadcast, recorded live” in the video clip she posted. Despite the censorship, the broadcast found its way onto yapolitic.ru, a site known for hosting state media content. Newsweek has reached out to Solovyov Live for further comments on the situation.
Position on the Ukraine Conflict and Western Relations
Solovyov, in line with Vladimir Putin, portrays the Ukraine conflict as a proxy war against NATO. He has often advocated for Western attacks, including nuclear strategies, on his platforms. During his Full Contact show, he described Western ideologies as “European Nazism” and “Satanism,” adding that Russia faces new threats from the West. The Kremlin has frequently used the justification of “denazification” for their actions in Ukraine, a claim widely disputed by Kyiv and global leaders.
Reactions to Alleged German Terror Plot
Solovyov dismissed accusations from German officials of Russian involvement in a drone incident near a Ukrainian aircraft at Leipzig/Halle Airport. German authorities have attributed this event to Russian hybrid operations across Europe. The incident, which could have led to significant damage, is part of a broader pattern identified by the German government. Analyzing recent hybrid operation activities, ACLED named Germany the most targeted country in Western Europe in 2025, with 35 out of 82 incidents attributed to Russia.
Norway and the Seizure of the Russian Ship
The incident with the Russian ship Professor Molchanov in Svalbard has escalated diplomatic tensions. Norway, a NATO member nation sharing a border with Russia, took the vessel following an arbitration ruling in favor of Naftogaz, linked to the Crimea annexation dispute. Solovyov condemned this action, labeling Ukrainian influences as “shady Nazi structures.” He urged for military intervention to reclaim the vessel, suggesting mobilization of both the navy and aviation forces. “Our Navy should be sent there to get the ship back by force,” he declared.
