Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, is leading a global conference involving over 60 countries to tackle the issue of far-left political terrorism. According to constitutional law attorney Jonathan Turley, groups such as Antifa, which use encrypted communication and receive international funding, represent a cross-border threat.
Rubio has cautioned against ignoring the dangers of violent left-wing extremism, which he claims is driven by ‘hatred for civilization itself.’
New developments include the shutdown of websites linked to Portland’s Rose City Antifa and the abortion-rights group Jane’s Revenge. This occurred after the State Department categorized their Italy-based technology provider, the A/I Collective, as a global terrorist entity.
As reported by Fox News Digital, the A/I Collective was identified as a vital part of the digital operations of the global Antifa network. A State Department official highlighted that numerous servers and websites, used by far-left extremists for planning violent acts and evading law enforcement, have been deactivated since the designation.
In Portland, the now-inaccessible Rose City Counter-Info website was used by Rose City Antifa to post personal details of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) staff and plan actions against federal agents. The State Department also mentioned that this site was used to encourage using laser pointers against Customs and Border Protection helicopters. One individual has admitted guilt for doing this, disrupting a helicopter’s planned landing.
Jane’s Revenge also used A/I services to issue communications acknowledging attacks on pregnancy centers, inciting further acts of violence. They were involved in a firebombing of a crisis pregnancy center in Madison, Wisconsin, in May 2022.
The NoBlogs platform, hosted by A/I and consisting of numerous sites, was partially inaccessible recently. Some pages remained while others showed errors.
Although the State Department has not clarified if the U.S. government directly disrupted A/I’s infrastructure, it has imposed sanctions preventing American businesses and financial institutions from engaging with A/I. Any assets under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen. The department states that A/I provided secure communication services to violent left-wing groups in the U.S. and Europe.
The A/I statement refutes the allegations, describing itself as a “small, volunteer-run technology collective from Italy” dedicated to “digital self-defense.” They assert, “Antifascism and anticapitalism are not terrorism. Protesting is not terrorism.”
The State Department’s designation has significantly impacted international far-left groups that have troubled the U.S. and its allies for some time, according to officials.
