In other roller coaster news, one of Florida’s significant rides is approaching its final day of operation. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay announced the permanent closure of Kumba on August 2, after 33 years thrilling visitors. Kumba debuted in 1993 as Florida’s tallest and fastest roller coaster, featuring the world’s highest vertical loop.
The nearly three-minute ride includes a 135-foot drop, speeds of 60 mph, and seven inversions, making it a popular choice for thrill-seekers. Although Kumba’s time is ending, Busch Gardens plans a $100 million investment to introduce its successor, Kumba’s Revenge.
The closure announcement evoked nostalgia among fans, many of whom recounted their experiences with Kumba. A Reddit user expressed sadness at losing a ‘classic, legend, and masterpiece,’ while another shared the sentiment of the ride being an ‘old friend.’
