President Trump expressed strong criticism towards media outlets, specifically The New York Times, following reports on his recent rally in Ohio. He suggested that reporters should be “arrested” due to their coverage of the event.
On Truth Social, Trump shared a video of a crowd lined up outside, claiming the Ohio Arena was full. He disputed New York Times correspondent Katie Rogers’ report that stated empty seats were visible during his speech at Butler High School in Vandalia. The venue has a 4,500-person capacity.
Trump denied any empty seats, insisting “thousands” were turned away due to maximum capacity. He accused media of dishonesty, claiming they inflate crowds at events for Sen. Bernie Sanders while downplaying attendance at his own rallies.
Trump further explained that attendees in upper sections often move to the main floor, a regular occurrence at his rallies. He shared a video of his entrance at the rally, where chants of “USA” were heard repeatedly.
During the Ohio rally, Trump supported Sen. Jon Husted, who is in a tight race against former Sen. Sherrod Brown. Jon Gruden, a former NFL coach, spoke at the rally, voicing support for Husted.
This criticism of The New York Times aligns with Trump’s history of targeting its reporters. The Justice Department previously subpoenaed Times journalists’ phone records after reporting on security concerns involving a Qatari-gifted jet for Air Force One. The request was later withdrawn.
