The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will conduct a thorough investigation into the safety systems at Miami International Airport. This examination follows a tragic incident where an aircraft overran a runway, striking two vehicles and resulting in the deaths of five individuals.
NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy, along with investigator Chihoon Shin, addressed the media in Miami regarding the accident. The incident involved an Amazon-branded cargo plane that erupted in flames after failing to stop on the runway.
One of the vehicles hit was a van belonging to a local Miami cleaning services company, which was carrying seven passengers. The NTSB aims to determine whether existing safety measures were adequate and identify any necessary improvements to prevent future occurrences.
This investigation will scrutinize airport safety systems to ensure the prevention of similar tragedies in the future,Homendy said.
The findings from this investigation could lead to recommendations for changes in airport safety protocols, underscoring the importance of rigorous safety standards in aviation.
