CBS News has announced Norah O’Donnell’s return to their morning segment ‘CBS Mornings.’ She will join Gayle King and Nate Burleson on the show. This comes after Tony Dokoupil moved to ‘CBS Evening News.’
The show’s producer, Jon Tower, expressed enthusiasm about O’Donnell’s return, noting her prior successful partnership with Gayle King from 2012 to 2019.
“Norah helped lead CBS This Morning alongside Gayle, creating one of the most memorable partnerships in the history of morning news,” Tower stated.
Despite this positive development, some liberal viewers have voiced concerns about Bari Weiss’ role as CBS News’ editor-in-chief. They have expressed their dissatisfaction through social media, as seen in comments on CBS Mornings’ Instagram posts. O’Donnell engaged with these comments, encouraging viewers to watch the show and form their own opinions.
Weiss was appointed by Paramount CEO David Ellison. She aims to focus on appealing to a broader audience, which has resulted in criticism from some political fringes. Ellison’s plans include a major acquisition involving Warner Bros. Discovery.
O’Donnell’s responsibilities are expanding beyond ‘CBS Mornings.’ She will also join ’60 Minutes’ as a correspondent. This move is part of a broader restructuring, which saw the departure of Scott Pelley, Sharyn Alfonsi, Cecilia Vega, and Anderson Cooper.
The anticipated merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery faces legal challenges. A trial is on the horizon with an antitrust lawsuit filed by California Attorney General Rob Bonta. The outcome remains uncertain, with potential implications for the management of CNN.
