Nicolas Cage’s beachfront home faced damage when the driveway collapsed after consistent rough surf. A sinkhole resulted from the collapse, influenced by coastal erosion due to Pacific Ocean’s Hurricane Marie, which led to big waves and high tides.
Footage depicts a 30-by-30-foot hole in front of the home, exposing waves and supporting beams under the property. Debris, including parts of a glass fence and concrete, can be seen in the hole, marked by safety cones nearby.
The City of Malibu addressed the incident on social media, indicating they responded to the driveway collapse and an associated gas leak in the early hours of Tuesday. Malibu officials, alongside the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Fire Department, closed the private road and identified the gas leak.
Malibu’s Building Safety Division and Southern California Gas Company are assessing the situation, having temporarily restricted entry to five homes. They continue to evaluate safety concerns in surrounding areas and will provide updates as available.
No community evacuations have been ordered. However, ongoing monitoring of coastal erosion issues, particularly near Pacific Coast Highway and Westward Beach, is happening in response to strong waves and tides.
Cage acquired the modern 4,000-square-foot home in 2024 for $10.5 million. It includes a rooftop deck and ground-level outdoor lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows offering an ocean view. Cage was not present during the driveway collapse, and no injuries were reported.
Known for roles in films like “Moonstruck,” “Face/Off,” and “Leaving Las Vegas,” Cage appreciates exploring various acting styles. In 2018, he shared in an interview about preferring independent films for artistic freedom, stating: I like to break forms, try different things, and I don’t think studios are comfortable with that…
