Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal echoed similar remarks on his X page. The conditions of the suspect and victims remain unclear. Police confirm the incident lacks indications of terrorism.
The NYPD promised further updates soon. Newsweek contacted Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s office for comments.
Public Safety Considerations
City officials have cautioned locals about delays in the vicinity, specifying the closure of 7th Avenue through Times Square.
Monday’s stabbing happened in a highly trafficked area, notorious for its heavy police presence due to massive daily visitations. The attack follows additional recent violent incidents around Times Square. For example, an MTA worker was stabbed in the subway complex just last week.
Crime and public safety in Midtown Manhattan, especially around Times Square, continue to receive attention from city leaders. Despite overall declines in citywide crime, Midtown faces ongoing challenges with assaults, robberies, and incidents involving individuals confronting mental health issues.
As this is a developing story, further updates are anticipated.
