MS NOW Host Questions ‘Xenophobia’ in Michigan Senate Race

MS NOW anchor Peter Alexander engaged with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer about the potential ‘xenophobia’ present in the midterm elections.

During his show “State of Play,” Alexander highlighted the U.S. Senate race in Michigan, featuring Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed and GOP candidate Mike Rogers. Both former President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump appeared at campaign rallies related to this race.

Alexander asked Governor Whitmer if she believed recent rhetoric directed at El-Sayed by Rogers and Trump was motivated by ‘xenophobia.’

Whitmer responded, stating, “I think that Mike Rogers and Donald Trump hope that there is, and that they’re trying to cultivate that.” She acknowledged the potential danger in Trump’s language, although she emphasized her belief that the Republicans should be focusing on economic issues instead.

The race sees Republican Mike Rogers contesting Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in the upcoming election. Discussions center around the economy, where Whitmer argued that Republicans are not addressing important fiscal matters affecting Americans’ daily lives.

Fox News Digital reached out to Whitmer’s office and both the El-Sayed and Rogers campaigns for comments but did not receive immediate responses.

White House Assistant Press Secretary Olivia Wales commented, “President Trump is calling out the radical extremists stoking division… The President will continue to unapologetically fight for American greatness.”

Both Trump and Rogers have criticized El-Sayed over alleged ties of his family to the Muslim Brotherhood.
