Skubal will soon get to experience playing for the Dodgers before entering free agency.
Today, however, it will be Justin Wrobleski taking the mound for the Dodgers. Wrobleski has an impressive 11-2 record with a 2.88 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP, having pitched 112.2 innings this season. Despite a recent struggle where he allowed five earned runs, he has been reliable overall. Earlier this year against the Cubs, he delivered a shutout over six innings.
Cubs Address Pitching Weaknesses
The Chicago Cubs, a Wild Card contender, have faced challenges but made moves to address their pitching. Adding Aaron Civale and former Cy Young winner Kevin Gausman strengthens their roster. Although Gausman will not start today, his presence enhances their rotation as they recuperate from injuries.
Matthew Boyd has returned to action for the Cubs, providing a solid performance. In 44 innings since his return, Boyd has allowed just nine earned runs. He recently delivered a standout seven-inning performance, giving up no runs while scattering four hits. Dodgers hitters have struggled against him, batting only .200 in 100 at-bats.
Anticipated Matchup
Today’s game promises to be competitive, with both teams fielding strong pitchers. While the Cubs seem a viable option, betting on the under 8.5 run line might be prudent, given both starters’ capabilities.
