MLB Ban on Tucupita Marcano and Rising Threats in Sports

The major ban on MLB player Tucupita Marcano for baseball gambling has sparked discussions on future bans and suspensions. Dan Dakich, host of ‘Don’t @ Me With Dan Dakich’ on OutKick.com, expressed concerns over this trend. He also emphasized that the WNBA should increase efforts to protect players like Caitlin Clark.

Baseball offers memorable moments in sports history but has also witnessed adverse fan reactions. Such reactions include throwing objects onto the field and making death threats on social media. Maddie Scott, wife of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tanner Scott, disclosed threats made against their newborn after her husband’s recent game. Scott allowed three runs, leading to a 4-3 defeat against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Maddie Scott voiced her distress on Instagram, commenting on the severity of the situation experienced by sports families. Her since-expired Instagram Stories, as reported by the New York Post, shared a chilling comment: “Hope this mutt d i e s soon,” alongside a photo of their child. The message also threatened violence against her family.

Tanner Scott has faced similar hostility, as Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers experienced unsettling threats following games. This pattern was not isolated, as reports from the 2025 season indicate. Seattle Mariners pitcher Tayler Saucedo reported a threat which wished death upon him. His wife was also targeted. Additionally, Boston Red Sox reliever Liam Hendriks, a cancer survivor, received cruel threats in May 2025. Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr and his family faced similar dangers, though authorities later identified the threat’s source as a drunken sports bettor.

As sports betting gains popularity, it increasingly aligns with threats toward MLB and other league players. The issue isn’t restricted to MLB, as other sports witness similar unfortunate incidents. The digital age invites a necessary caution, urging people to occasionally disconnect.
