Three major media outlets, CNN, MS NOW, and Politico, have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration. They claim the removal of their access to the White House presents a ‘direct assault on the First Amendment.’
The controversy arose when CNN was taken off the schedule for the rotating pool of television journalists who cover the White House. This decision affected coverage of President Trump’s trip to New York for the United Nations General Assembly.
The TV pool decided not to provide a replacement journalist for the event, which underscores the tension between the Trump administration and the media.
“This decision is unprecedented and seriously undermines journalistic independence,” expressed a representative from the affected media outlets.
Liz Landers, a correspondent for PBS NewsHour, reports on these developments. Her previous work includes positions as a national security correspondent for Scripps News, where she also reported on disinformation issues.
