In a memorable ‘Monday Night Football’ game, Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, made NFL history by throwing his 150th touchdown pass for the Rams. This achievement marks him as the only NFL player to record 150 touchdown passes with two different teams, having previously played for the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2020.
During the game against the Buffalo Bills, Stafford displayed exceptional skills, completing 40 out of 54 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns. His performance included two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, connecting with receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. Earlier, in the second quarter, Stafford also found Adams for a touchdown.
The game, held at SoFi Stadium, was a thrilling event that some speculated could preview the Super Bowl. Though the Rams scored 27 points in the second half, including a late rushing touchdown from Kyren Williams to tie the game, they ultimately faced a 37-34 overtime defeat.
Despite the historic feat, the Rams dropped to a 2-3 season record, a disappointing start for a team favored to win the next Super Bowl. Injuries have been a notable challenge, with Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett out due to knee surgery, and his return is evaluated ‘week to week,’ according to Rams head coach Sean McVay.
Stafford’s milestone positions him among the elite quarterbacks in NFL history. He ranks sixth in all-time touchdown passes and needs more than 70 touchdowns to surpass Brett Favre for the fifth spot.
