Madison Square Garden Hosts Historic NBA Finals Game, Knicks Aim to Break 53-Year Championship Drought

The first NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden this millennium is poised to be a historic event. The New York Knicks, in pursuit of their first championship in 53 years, are set to host Game 3 of the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.

Knicks games have always commanded high ticket prices, but this upcoming game is proving to be the most expensive yet. As of publication, SeatGeek lists the cheapest tickets in the nosebleeds at $9,990, with only two available below the $10,000 threshold. Meanwhile, StubHub offers 100-level seats starting at $13,115.

The New York Post reports that the average ticket price for Games 3, 4, and 6 at Madison Square Garden during this Finals is $7,149, breaking the previous record of $1,965 set in Dallas in 2024.

Ahead of Game 1 against the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden, the anticipation is palpable. With the Knicks reaching the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999, and seeking their first championship since 1973, the excitement is undeniable.

Only Super Bowl LVIII in 2024, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, had higher average ticket prices ($10,497) than the current NBA Finals series.

President Donald Trump has announced he will be present at Monday’s game, adding to the event’s high profile.

The Knicks secured a victory in Game 1 in San Antonio, resulting in a surge in ticket prices due to the heightened finals excitement.

If the Knicks manage another win in Game 2 on the road, bringing home a 2-0 lead, tickets could see further price increases.

A digital billboard at Madison Square Garden displays Knicks guard Jalen Brunson with the message “This Train is Not Stopping,” emphasizing the team’s determination as the 2026 Eastern Conference champions.

Game 2 is scheduled to commence at 8:30 p.m. ET.
